Get into the 80s groove

Ah, just look at all that neon! This can mean only one thing: THE 80s ARE BACK!!!

Many current brides-to-be will have either been born in the 80s or grew up during them. So, what better hen party could you have than dancing to hits from the 80s?

A themed dance party is a great way to get any hen weekend started. And they are the perfect excuse to get out the fancy dress.

Dancing is a great way to exercise, learn a new skill and, most important of all: have fun. If not everyone in your hen party knows each other, a themed dance party is a great ice breaker. And with a fantastic soundtrack from the 80s, everyone is sure to get into the party spirit quickly.

There were lots of things “acceptable in the 80s”. Neon clothes. Big hair. Bigger shoulder pads. Now, thanks to a bit of reminiscing, they’re acceptable all over again. There’s even talk of bringing Dallas back!

The 80s had it all: Scott and Charlene in Neighbours, Michael Jackson, Dirty Dancing, Live Aid, The Breakfast Club and Bananarama.

It was also the decade in which Fame, Footloose and Flashdance hit the screens. And they were all big on dance numbers. Why not re-live some of those great sequences for your hen party?

And when the dance party’s over, you could get the DVD out to bring back even more memories. If you’re feeling adventurous, you could try your new moves at a nightclub later on.

The options are endless: yuppie cocktails maybe? Driving a Delorean? Maybe a great big Rubix cube competition while you watch Labyrinth.

One thing you can be sure of: by starting the hen weekend with some 80s dancing you can’t go wrong.

Cheryl Taylor recently organised an eighties themed dance session for her friend’s hen party. “Our instructor was good fun,” Cheryl says. “She showed us how to do all the dance moves in stages. So we now all feel we can pull off the 80s dance moves enough to perform at the wedding.”

Vanessa Robinson is the Events Manager at Pink Kiss, the themed dance party specialists. She says: “Dancing is a great way to get a hen weekend started. If you want a bit of retro-fun, 80s dance sessions are the way to go.”

So get out the big perms, dust off your shell suit and let’s get dancing.
